Our scope of influence is deliberately broad and meant to be flexible to encompass the needs of our diverse community. Our areas of collaboration are described on our user group page on mediawiki.org. The group was recognized by the Affiliations Committee on November 11, 2014 and renewed in January 2016.

In 2016 the MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group became the maintainer of WikiApiary, a service which collects, displays and analyzes information about MediaWiki websites.

In April 2022 the MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group became recognized as a non-profit type 501(c)(6) by the US IRS.
