MediaWiki Pingback, a new feature coming in 1.28 will allow MediaWiki installs to share anonymous data about its installation. This feature will help the community of MediaWiki admins, developers, and users better understand how MediaWiki is being used. It will also provide invaluable feedback to MediaWiki developers to better understand changes that impact compatibility. Questions like, "Can we update the minimum requirements for PHP?" or "How much memory do most MediaWiki installations have?" can now be addressed with more certainty.

For more information on the feature and to join the discussion, see Ori's post on wikitech-l.

There's also a (admittedly light) page on the MediaWiki Manual.
