Lydia Pintscher, Product Manager for Wikidata, has announced that arbitrary access is coming to Wikidata! What does this mean? From [https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata-l/2015-May/006038.html Lydia's announcement], "When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects there is currently a limitation in place which hinders some use cases. Data can only be accessed from the corresponding item. So for example the article about Berlin can only get data from the item about Berlin but not from the item about Germany. This had technical reasons. On Monday we will remove this limitation on the first wikis."

Here's the syntax : {{#property:capital|from=Q183}} to get the capital from the item about Germany. Since the announcement, [https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata/2015-June/006293.html even more wikis now have arbitrary access]!

Here's a few bookmarks I've had laying around that don't quite warrant their own blog post, but are still really interesting. Enjoy the smorgasbord of information.

Wikidata arbitrary access is coming

Lydia Pintscher, Product Manager for Wikidata, has announced that arbitrary access is coming to Wikidata! What does this mean?

From Lydia's announcement, "When using data from Wikidata on Wikipedia and other sister projects there is currently a limitation in place which hinders some use cases.

Since the announcement, even more wikis now have arbitrary access!

Semantic MediaWiki 3.0

It's still a little ways off, but there are a few interesting issues being tracked for SMW users that I thought were interesting.

You should join the discussion where appropriate.

Sysadmin Hub

I've been using MediaWiki for nearly 4 years now and I'm just learning of the Sysadmin hub on MediaWiki.org. What a great resource for folks administering a wiki.
