Notes

Shared notes: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/mwstake-2019-06

  1. (Greg) Upgraded all his wikis to 1.32.2 using Meza
    • Asked if anyone else had, nobody volunteered, Greg is ahead of the game.
  2. (Mark) MWStake now has a bank account
  3. (Lex) Presented update on SMWCon 2019
    • Asked for feedback on the new conference front page's 3 bullet points
      • (Mark) Voiced his approval, especially #3
      • (Lex) Mentioned that Airy mentioned both SMW and EMW be mentioned since it was EMWCon 2019 in Daly city that gained his involvement in the group
      • (Sabine) What is the difference between "MW Data" and "SMW Data"
        • (Sabine, Cindy, & Mark) Maybe change the first bullet to "knowledge" vs. data
    • (Lex) One track or multiple track conference?
      • (Lex) Wolfgang and Marie only are interested in the talks and they may represent other's views as well?
      • (Cindy) We might want to consider their (Wolfgang & Marie) views as proxies for others, although we shouldn't design the conference around it
      • (Cindy) Doesn't like the create camps and tutorials sprinkled through the conference
      • (Lex) OK, so create camps and tutorials at the end
    • (Lex) Would like to have conference swag like Meza installed on a Raspberry Pi but doesn't have the time to work out the bugs
      • ACTION ITEM (Mark) I will work with Daren for Meza on Rasberry Pi
    • (Lex) ACTION ITEM Regarding the "Participation Pool", I will contact my short list to help fund the conference with companies in the MediaWiki space, they will receive marketing based on their contribution
  4. (Bryan) Gave a brief discussion of the currently proposed MWStake membership dues and requested comments (mwstake.org or mediawiki.org)
  5. Boilerplate discussion
    • (Lex) It would be good to have one single model for the current extension template
    • (Mark) The conference would be a good place to start the discussion
    • (Gergo) Added a link to Best practices for extensions
    • (Lex) Great info, thanks Gergo
    • (Ad) Shouldn't we have a group of extensions that are "MWStake maintained"?
      • (Mark) Yes! We should "rehabilitate" some extensions that are commonly used
      • (Lex) This idea keeps popping up, we need to DO IT!
      • (Sabine) Proposed a "certificate" for extensions
      • (Bryan) A good first step would be to collect all the extensions each of us consider crucial for Enterprise Knowledge Management, compare each individuals list to the groups, and decide as a group (MWStake) what the list should contain. Then we need to outline a process that defines how we certify, recheck, and mark the extension as certified as an ongoing and continuous process.
  6. (Cindy) WMF moving towards a "graceful degradation" of support for 3rd parties
  7. Discussion about switching from Visual Editor (VE) to Wiki Mark-up (Source) and back
    • Currently you can switch from VE to Source without loss of data
    • Switching from Source to VE without RESTBase isn't currently possible and installing and configuring RESTBase has proven challenging
  8. (Bryan) Discussed the current problem with Scientific Publishing in the world and how MediaWiki may help
  9. (Greg) Mentioned Approved Revs has an issue in big wikis
    • (Greg) There are long delays for queries, does anyone know why?
    • (Mark) Suggested updating the Phabricator task with an "explain"
    • (Gergo) Mentioned using Structured Logging
